Yasin Malik Ends Hunger Strike: Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, lodged in Tihar Jail, has called off his hunger strike. Malik, who was on hunger strike for the last 10 days, ended his fast on Monday evening after he was informed that his demands had been conveyed to the concerned authorities.

Malik had started an indefinite hunger strike on July 22 after the Center did not respond to his demand to appear in person in a Jammu court hearing the Rubaiya Saeed kidnapping case. Malik is an accused in the kidnapping case. The 56-year-old leader of the outlawed Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) is serving a life sentence in a terror financing case.

The demands raised have been forwarded to the concerned authorities.

Officials said he has deferred his hunger strike by two months on the request of Delhi Jail Director General Sandeep Goel. A senior jail official said the DG informed Malik that the demands raised by him have been forwarded to the authorities concerned and he would be informed about the decision on it.

After returning to jail, refused to eat anything

“Convict Yasin Malik, who has been on hunger strike in Tihar Jail since July 22, ended his fast today (Monday) evening on my request,” Goyal said. Malik was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital here last month after fluctuating blood pressure and refused to eat anything after returning to jail.

The separatist leader, who was kept in solitary confinement in a high-risk cell in Tihar Jail No-7, was shifted to the jail’s medical examination room, where he was being given fluids through a vein, officials said. Malik had submitted a letter to the doctors of the hospital, stating that he did not want to undergo treatment.
